Bush should give the Heisman back

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/08/sports/ncaafootball/08rhoden.html?_r=1&ref=sports

The story of Reggie Bush possibly having the Heisman revoked from him from the 2005 season has been making recent headlines. I chose this story because I noticed yesterday that there have been many reports stating that it will be taken away but according to the Downtown athletic club president Jim Corcoran these reports are premature. "Everyone is writing all of this stuff, I don't know where they're getting it." At this point it seems there have been no absolute decision to take the award from him. With some speculating Bush should avoid the embarrassment and give it back himself. Bush and USC had already been condemned for ineligibility by the N.C.A.A during the 20005 season for accepting lavish gifts form 2 sports marketers. USC has cut ties with Bush removing all references of him throughout the school. The reporters that broke the story Bush will have his Heisman stripped will most likely face some scrutiny for having post false information.

  1. I agree that these reporters will face some scrutiny on the college level and NFL level if they covered it.

  2. I don't think they'll ever actually take his Heisman away because then the Hesiman Trust will be questioned as to why other Heisman trophies have not been taken away. O.J. Simpson has been more of an embarrassment to the Heisman Trust and U.S.C. than Reggie Bush has. Bush accepted gifts, tell me one school that has proof all of its athletes have not accepted gifts. In my opinion, if you strip Bush over this, than you have to strip O.J. and possibly others.

  3. This post brings up the subject of reporting something using unnamed sources, which is what the Yahoo! story did. Different news organizations have different policies about using an unnamed source -- Newsday makes its reporters have at least two unnamed sources before they report something. Sometimes the only way to get to a story is through unnamed sources. Still, it would be good to talk about what the danger is in doing so.
